Problems and Prospects of Using Authentic Materials in Foreign Language Teaching

Abstract

The article examines the challenges and opportunities of utilising authentic materials in foreign language instruction. The concept of “authentic material” is defined as a means of developing students’ communicative competence and intercultural awareness. The study analyses the main advantages of implementing authentic texts, video and audio resources in the educational process, as well as challenges related to their selection and adaptation. The author emphasises that the effective use of authentic materials increases learning motivation, brings the educational environment closer to real-life communication, and enhances critical thinking skills. Practical approaches to integrating authentic resources into foreign language teaching are proposed.
